About

This Project

LQM is a book anthology responding to the emotions and experiences that surround “The DSM”. “The DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders)” often has come up in conversations with other members of the mad community and marginalized groups affected by it as a neutral tool that can be used in dehumanizing oppression at least as easily as it can be helpful. The “DSM” is often, but not solely utilized by people in positions of power who do not experience the states of being described within the book’s pages. This project is about making a book comprised of stories written by and for, with and about people from the mad community, psychiatric survivors and others marginalized by the mental health system, with an emphasis on believing we have, finding, reclaiming and exercising our many voices in the various states of being that we exist with. The first book published will focus on people and communities in Vermont specifically with possibility to create additional books once the project gets going.

The Person the Idea Came To

Eryn was born in Vermont and has lived here the majority of their life traveling and living elsewhere briefly. All of this time has been in concert with hearing voices and seeing visions as well as other phenomena. When ze came out as a voice hearer in 2013, ze found themself needing psychiatric support and was embraced by the mad community here in Vermont.
